A sculptural succulent with a twist, Curly Grey is a unique form of the Silver Jade Plant. Its thick, grey-green leaves curl and ripple along the edges, creating a textured, ornamental look that stands out in any garden. In Cape Town’s climate, it produces clusters of small, starry white to pale pink flowers in midsummer (December–February), adding delicate contrast to its bold foliage. Perfect for water-wise gardens, containers, and rockeries, it thrives in sunny positions and coastal conditions. With its unusual curled leaves and seasonal blooms, Curly Grey is both a conversation piece and a resilient garden performer.

Muehlenbeckia axillaris, commonly known as Creeping Wire Vine, is a versatile and charming ground cover that brings effortless beauty to any garden. With its fine, wiry stems and tiny round leaves, it forms a dense, cascading carpet of greenery that softens hard edges and fills spaces with natural elegance. Evergreen and hardy, it offers year-round texture and colour, thriving in Cape Town’s Mediterranean climate of hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters.

Naturally native to New Zealand’s alpine regions, Creeping Wire Vine adapts beautifully to Western Cape gardens, where it flourishes in full sun to partial shade and tolerates coastal conditions with ease.

Why You’ll Love It:

  • Water-wise once established, perfect for sustainable Cape Town gardening
  • Evergreen foliage ensures year-round interest and texture
  • Works beautifully as ground cover, in hanging baskets, or cascading over walls and rockeries
  • Hardy and low-maintenance, ideal for busy gardeners
  • Thrives in Cape Town’s varied seasons with minimal fuss

Planting & Care:

Plant your Creeping Wire Vine in well-draining soil and water regularly until established. Once settled, it becomes drought-tolerant and thrives in coastal conditions, needing only occasional trimming to maintain shape and encourage dense growth. In Cape Town gardens, it produces small yellow-white flowers from late spring into early summer, adding a subtle sparkle to its dense mat of glossy green leaves on red-brown stems.

Though often chosen as a humble ground cover, Creeping Wire Vine can be trained to climb and weave through rocks or walls, transforming overlooked corners into living, textured tapestries that surprise and delight.

Regular price R 44.95

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

A true garden classic, the Chantenay Karoo Carrot is a short, broad-rooted variety celebrated for its sweet flavour, crisp texture, and reliable performance. Unlike long, slender carrots, Chantenay types are stocky and conical, making them perfect for Cape Town’s diverse soils, even heavier or shallower beds where other carrots struggle. From autumn through spring (March–September), these seeds produce vibrant orange roots that are ideal for roasting, juicing, snacking, or adding crunch to salads. Easy to grow and highly rewarding, they’re a favourite among home gardeners who value flavour and resilience. These carrots aren’t just a crop, they’re a heritage variety that brings dependable harvests and exceptional taste straight from your garden.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Heritage carrot variety with rich flavour.
  • Short, conical roots thrive in shallow or heavy soils.
  • Reliable harvests in Cape Town’s cool seasons.
  • Perfect for roasting, juicing, and fresh eating.
  • Easy to grow from seed, even for beginners.

Plant & Care

Sow seeds directly into well-prepared, loose soil enriched with compost. Keep rows evenly moist during germination. Thin seedlings to allow space for roots to develop. Water moderately, carrots are water-wise once established. Harvest when roots reach 10–15 cm for the best flavour and texture. Succession sowing every few weeks ensures a continuous supply.

Did You Know?

The Chantenay carrot originated in France and has been prized for centuries for its sweetness and adaptability. Its shorter roots make it ideal for soils where traditional long carrots fail, and its flavour intensifies when roasted, making it a gourmet favourite in kitchens worldwide.

Turn your garden into a showpiece with Dipladenia (Mandevilla) Jade White that delivers an impressive display of pure white, trumpet-shaped blooms from spring right into early autumn. Each flower shines against lush, glossy green foliage, bringing effortless elegance to patios, courtyards, balconies, and sunny garden beds.

This naturally neat grower is perfect for containers, decorative pots, or trained lightly up a small trellis for added height. In the Western Cape, it thrives in full sun to bright semi-shade, and appreciates a sheltered spot away from cold, wet winter weather. In containers, choose a pot with good drainage so the roots can stretch comfortably.

• Compact, evergreen habit, ideal for patios and containers
• Flowers generously from spring to early autumn
• Thrives in sun to semi-shade in Cape Town conditions
• Beautiful trained on a light trellis or grown as a tidy shrub

Growing tips
Plant in well-drained soil or a premium potting mix, keep the soil lightly moist (never waterlogged), and feed during the growing season for continuous flowering. Protect from cold, wet winters, especially if planted in pots. Light spring thinning encourages a fresh burst of growth and blooms.

Mandevilla Opale Grenat is a striking climber shrub, prized for its luxurious, jewel-toned crimson-red blooms that flower continuously from spring into early autumn. Rich in colour and vibrancy, it creates an opulent display whether in patio pots, flower beds, or trained on a trellis. Planted in groups, Opale Grenat delivers a dramatic, high-impact show that brings depth and elegance to Cape Town and Western Cape gardens.

Thriving in full sun and moist, free-draining soil, this variety is easy to care for and richly rewarding. Water regularly, feed every 2–3 weeks in the growing season, and protect from frost in cooler areas. Avoid planting directly against hot walls; instead, allow this climber shrub to twine naturally on airy supports. Locally grown and rarely seen in such intensity of colour, Cape Garden’s Opale Grenat plants arrive strong, healthy, and ready to transform your garden.

Perfect for securing plants to stakes, trellises, and support structures in vegetable gardens, flower beds, and greenhouse operations. Essential for training fruit trees, supporting heavy flowering branches, and guiding climbing plants along desired paths. Use by wrapping gently around stems and supports, allowing slight looseness for growth expansion, and check periodically to ensure the tape isn't becoming too tight as plants develop.

Plant & Care

Place your Rainshade Dwarf Umbrella Tree in a bright indoor position with filtered or indirect light for best growth. Water thoroughly when the top 2-3cm of soil feels dry, allowing excess water to drain away. Never leave the pot standing in water. Feed with a balanced indoor plant fertiliser during the warmer growing months to encourage healthy foliage. Wipe leaves gently with a damp cloth to remove dust and keep the leaves looking glossy. Rotate the pot occasionally to encourage even growth on all sides.
