This striking ornamental grass is a showstopper in any Cape Town garden. From late spring through autumn (October to April), it produces graceful arching plumes in shades of burgundy to purple, swaying elegantly in the breeze. Its rich foliage and feathery flowers add movement, texture, and colour to borders, containers, and mass plantings. Perfect for ornamental landscaping, screening, and accent planting, it thrives in full sun and is remarkably drought-tolerant once established. Bring drama and elegance to your garden with the ever-popular Purple Fountain Grass.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Elegant purple plumes that dance in the wind.
  • Long flowering season in Cape Town’s climate.
  • Adds instant drama and texture to landscapes.
  • Low maintenance and drought-tolerant.
  •  Perfect for containers, borders, or mass planting.

Plant & Care

Plant in well-drained soil in a sunny position. Water regularly during establishment, then reduce as it becomes drought-hardy. Cut back old foliage in late winter (August) to encourage fresh spring growth. Avoid heavy shade, as this reduces flowering. Replace clumps every few years to maintain vigour.
