Plant in full sun in deep, fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing and during fruit development, but avoid waterlogged conditions. Protect young trees from strong winds and frost. Feed during active growth and prune only as needed to remove dead or damaged branches.
‘Fuerte’ is an early-season avocado, generally harvested from late summer through winter in South Africa. Pick mature fruit while still firm and allow it to ripen at room temperature. A test fruit that ripens well within about a week indicates the crop is ready to harvest.
