Gaura ‘Ice Cream Pink’ is a soft, airy perennial known for its delicate butterfly-like blooms that dance above the foliage on slender stems. In Cape Town’s climate, it flowers generously from late spring through autumn (October–May), bringing continuous movement and colour to sunny beds and mixed plantings.
This compact variety produces elegant pastel‑pink flowers and is perfect for cottage gardens, pollinator-friendly borders, rockeries, and water-wise landscapes. It thrives in full sun, tolerates heat exceptionally well, and blends beautifully with other soft-textured perennials.
A graceful, easy-growing plant that adds charm and lightness to any garden space.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Produces dancing, butterfly-like pink blooms for many months of the year.
  • Excellent heat tolerance, making it ideal for Cape Town summers.
  • Compact habit suits pathways, borders, and mixed perennial displays.
  • Attracts butterflies and beneficial insects into the garden.
  • Low-maintenance and thrives in water-wise, well-drained soils.

Plant & Care

Plant Gaura ‘Ice Cream Pink’ in full sun with well-draining soil, ideally enriched with compost for strong root development. Water regularly during the establishment phase, then reduce watering once the plant is settled, as it becomes increasingly drought‑tolerant. Trim lightly in midsummer to encourage fresh flowering stems and a denser shape. Cut back harder in late winter (August) before the new season’s growth begins. Avoid overly rich soils, as they may lead to floppy stems.

Did You Know?

Gaura is sometimes called “Whirling Butterflies” because its blooms sway and flutter in the lightest breeze, creating the illusion of tiny butterflies dancing above the plant.
