Agapanthus Poppin’® Pink is a remarkable South African-bred colour breakthrough, producing some of the most intensely pink flowers yet achieved in an Agapanthus. Its full, rounded flower heads combine deep, vibrant pink with lighter pink and soft white highlights, creating a completely different look from traditional blue and white Agapanthus.
Bred by South Africa’s De Wet Plant Breeders, Poppin’ Pink combines its unusual flower colour with a neat, medium-compact habit and attractive evergreen, strappy foliage. Growing to approximately 70 cm high and 60 cm wide, it is an outstanding choice for contemporary borders, mass planting and statement patio pots.
Poppin’ Pink flowers over a long period, producing a strong summer display followed by reliable repeat flowering later in the season. Heat and drought tolerance once established, good disease resistance and coastal tolerance make it particularly well suited to warm, sunny gardens.
Plant in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing, then water moderately during prolonged hot, dry periods. Feed in spring with a balanced fertiliser to support healthy growth and flowering.
Remove spent flower stems to keep the plant neat and encourage repeat flowering. Remove old or damaged foliage as needed. Once established, Poppin’ Pink has good drought and coastal tolerance.
It took 21 years of breeding and selection by South African breeder De Wet Plant Breeders to achieve the remarkably intense pink colour of Poppin’ Pink. It represents an exciting colour breakthrough in a genus traditionally dominated by shades of blue, purple and white.
