Petunia ‘Black Ray’ brings bold drama to the garden with its striking, velvety near-black flowers and deep purple undertones. The unusually dark blooms stand out beautifully against fresh green foliage, creating a sophisticated display in pots, hanging baskets and garden borders.

Free-flowering over a long season, ‘Black Ray’ performs best in plenty of sunshine with regular watering and feeding. In Cape Town’s climate, it can flower from spring well into autumn, bringing months of rich, dramatic colour to patios, balconies and sunny garden spaces.

  • Striking velvety, near-black flowers with deep purple undertones
  • Long flowering season from spring into autumn
  • Compact, spreading growth habit
  • Excellent for pots, hanging baskets and garden borders
  • Creates beautiful contrast with white, pink, yellow and brightly coloured flowers
  • Free-flowering with regular watering and feeding

Plant & Care

Plant in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny position for the best flowering. Water regularly, particularly during hot, dry weather, allowing excess water to drain freely and avoiding waterlogged conditions.

Feed regularly during the growing and flowering season to encourage healthy growth and abundant blooms. Remove faded flowers and trim back long or tired growth as needed to keep the plant compact and encourage fresh flowering.

Did You Know?

So-called black Petunias are not truly black. Their petals contain high concentrations of dark pigments that make the flowers appear almost black, particularly in certain light. This unusual colouring makes ‘Black Ray’ especially striking when planted alongside white or brightly coloured flowers.
