Peach Boland is a productive deciduous fruit tree prized for its large, juicy peaches with white flesh, a soft, melting texture and wonderful sweet flavour. The green-white skin develops an attractive red blush as the fruit ripens. In the Western Cape, Boland peaches are generally ready to harvest from mid-December, depending on growing conditions.
A strong-growing, upright tree, Boland is an excellent choice for home orchards and productive gardens. It is self-pollinating and has a low chilling requirement, making it well suited to warmer growing areas, including the coastal Western Cape.
Plant in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing and during fruit development, but avoid waterlogged conditions. Feed in spring with a suitable fruit-tree fertiliser and prune during winter dormancy to maintain shape and encourage productive new growth.
Peaches are harvested when they have developed their full colour and begin to soften slightly. Picking them at the right stage helps preserve their juicy texture and sweet flavour, making freshly harvested Boland peaches especially delicious.
