A productive almond tree with beautiful spring blossoms followed by delicious, nutritious almonds. Trees generally begin bearing nuts from around 3–4 years after planting, with fuller crops as they mature. In the Western Cape, almonds typically ripen from late summer into early autumn, making this an excellent choice for sunny home orchards and edible gardens.
Best harvested from late summer to early autumn, when the outer hulls dry and split open. Pick or shake the almonds from the tree, remove the hulls and allow the nuts to dry thoroughly before storing.
Plant in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing and during nut development. Feed in spring and prune in winter to maintain a healthy, open shape. Protect young trees from strong wind and late frost.
