A bold succulent with fleshy, rounded leaves edged in red, Cotyledon ‘Boma’ is a showstopper in any garden. From midsummer into autumn (December–April in the Western Cape), it produces tall spikes of tubular orange-red flowers that draw sunbirds and pollinators. Perfect for water-wise gardens, rockeries, and containers, it thrives in full sun but tolerates semi-shade. Boma Cotyledon Cotyledon orbiculata ‘Boma’
Plant in well-draining sandy or gravelly soil. Position in full sun for best flowering, though it will tolerate semi-shade. Water sparingly, especially in winter, as it is highly drought-resistant. Remove spent flower stalks to encourage neat growth. Protect from heavy frost, though it generally withstands Cape winters well.
The name Cotyledon orbiculata comes from the Latin “orbiculata,” meaning round. A nod to its distinctive rounded leaves. In traditional Cape use, the leaves were sometimes applied as a soothing poultice for minor skin irritations.
