Dianthus 'Oscar Violet & Pink' is a compact, low-growing perennial with masses of beautifully coloured violet and pink flowers. Its ruffled blooms stand above neat blue-green foliage, adding vibrant seasonal colour to sunny borders, rockeries, containers and smaller gardens. Its compact habit also makes it ideal for pots, window boxes and mixed planting.
Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing, then reduce watering once established, allowing the soil to dry slightly between watering. Avoid waterlogged areas. Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage further blooms and lightly trim after flowering to maintain a neat shape. Feed lightly during active growth, especially when grown in containers.
The name Dianthus comes from Greek words meaning “divine flower.” Dianthus are also commonly known as “pinks”, referring to the characteristic fringed or serrated edges of their petals.
