Almond Non Pareil produces high-quality almonds with a soft, paper-thin shell. Beautiful white to pale pink blossoms appear in spring, with nuts typically ready to harvest from late January into February in South Africa.
A medium-vigour, semi-spreading deciduous tree that performs best in full sun and well-drained soil. Non Pareil is self-incompatible, so it needs a compatible almond variety with an overlapping flowering period, such as Peerless, planted nearby for good fruit set.
Plant in full sun and deep, well-drained soil. Water regularly during flowering, fruit development and dry summer periods. Plant with a compatible pollinator such as Peerless for reliable nut production. Prune lightly after planting to establish a strong framework.
‘Non Pareil’ means “without equal”, reflecting the variety’s reputation for producing high-quality almonds. It is one of the best-known and most widely grown commercial almond varieties.
