Big or Small, There’s Colour for Everyone

Colour doesn’t ask for a large garden — it only asks for a little imagination. A single hanging basket of Calibrachoa ,spilling with tiny trumpet flowers, can brighten a stoep. A few pots of Pelargoniums on the patio will flower endlessly, while a mixed border filled with Petunias, Gazanias, and Osteospermums can turn an ordinary patch into a painter’s palette. Even window boxes or a cluster of terracotta pots can create cheerful displays that last the whole season.

The Stars of Spring Colour at Cape Garden

  • Calibrachoas – We have an amazing assortment, including our very popular Calibrachoa hanging baskets, which are overflowing with blooms in every shade imaginable. They’re effortless, vibrant, and perfect for adding instant cheer.

  • Pelargoniums – Our range is huge, with many new varieties now on our floor. They thrive in both garden beds and containers, offering rich colour and endless charm.

  • Osteospermums & Gazanias – Hardy, sun-loving performers with dazzling daisy-like faces that bring bold swathes of colour to borders and rockeries.

  • Petunias – Available in both annuals and perennials, petunias deliver dependable colour for months, whether planted en masse in beds or tumbling from pots.

  • Marigolds – Bright and sunny, they’re also the perfect companion plants in vegetable gardens, keeping pests at bay while adding cheerful gold and orange.

  • Lobelias – Soft cascades of blue, purple, and white, wonderful for edging beds, softening baskets, or spilling gracefully over pots.

  • Salvias – Beloved for their spires of colour and ability to attract pollinators, salvias bring depth, movement, and life into every planting scheme.

  • Lavenders – A timeless spring favourite with fragrant blooms and silvery foliage that add beauty, structure, and scent to the garden. Lavender ‘Margaret Roberts is especially beloved by landscapers for its reliability, striking presence, and ability to deliver colour and fragrance year after year.

  • Roses – True queens of the garden, roses are October and November’s wonders, bursting into their first full flush of the season. Their fragrance, form, and endless variety make them essential in any spring display.

Creating Your Colour Story

The beauty of spring gardening lies in choice and playfulness. You can design with harmony — soft pinks and purples that feel romantic — or go bold with fiery reds and oranges for high impact. Layer your planting: tall salvias or roses at the back, mid-height pelargoniums or petunias in the middle, and trailing calibrachoas or lobelias in front. Hanging baskets and containers allow for creativity and flexibility — mix textures, contrast tones, and enjoy the cascade of blossoms.

Simple Care for Lasting Blooms

To keep your colour show thriving:

  • Feed plants regularly with a balanced fertiliser to encourage repeat flowering.

  • Deadhead often — it encourages new buds and prolongs the display.

  • Mulch around beds to conserve water and make your colours pop against rich, dark soil.

  • Water deeply and consistently, especially as warmer days arrive.
